BC volleyball played to a 1-1 split Saturday on day two of the Labor Day Classic. After dropping the first match of the day 3-2 to Judson, the Cliff bounced back to win the second match 3-1 over the University of Saint Francis.
Freshman
Taryn Nothem had a breakout game for the Chargers against Saint Francis, putting down 12 kills on 31 attacks across the four sets.
Toria Andre and
Tyra Blue chipped in nine kills each while
Sami Wasmund registered a .500 attack rate with six kills and no errors on 12 attempts.
BC dropped the first set to the Cougars but went on to win three straight for the win. The Chargers needed a few extra points to win the match, winning 27-25 in set two and 26-24 in set four.
Abbey Jones led the BC defense with 17 digs.
Tannah Heath had 13 and
Jo Sadler contributed 10.
Maureen Imrie dished out 23 assists and
Madilyn Wagaman had 16. Wagaman was strong from the service line, putting down three aces and bringing her ace total to 12 this season.
In the Chargers' 3-2 loss to Judson Andre was the kill leader, followed by
Chloe Johnson with 10. Heath and Wagaman had three aces each and Wagaman had 22 digs.
BC lost set one but won sets two and three to take a 2-1 lead in the match. BC narrowly dropped set four 25-22 and fell 15-12 in set five.
Briar Cliff is now 4-5 on the season. The team will return to GPAC action Wednesday night by hosting Morningside at the Newman Flanagan Center.
