Blue and Gold drop GPAC opener at #5 Dordt

Box Score Despite a few bright spots in the Briar Cliff volleyball team's performance, the Chargers dropped their season opener at #5 Dordt Wednesday evening in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders swept the match 3-0.

Tyra Blue put down eight kills and was strong defensively for the Cliff, who moves to 2-3 on the season.

"Tyra may have had her best match since I've been at Briar Cliff," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "She was a well reounded player tonight and was outstanding blocking at the net and terminating out of system balls."

Abbie Ericson led the Chargers with eight K's while Toria Andre's .357 hitting percentage was a team high.

Brenna Krommendyk, the NAIA's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, had 11 kills, a .550 swing rate and took part in four blocks.

The Chargers struggled on the serve, committing seven service errors and eight reception errors.

"We started too slow tonight," Weatherford added. "We didn't have an answer for Dordt's balanced attack and that turned out

Tannah Heath had 18 digs for the Cliff and Maureen Imrie had 15 assists.

The Chargers will return to Sioux City for a Labor Day Classic hosted by College of Saint Mary and United Sports Academy Friday and Saturday.
