The Briar Cliff baseball took a tough 4-3 loss at Morningside Saturday in the first half of a doubleheader with the Mustangs, but bounced back in game two with an 11-1 win in seven innings. Briar Cliff baseball moves to 32-16 on the year and 15-11 in conference action with two games to play in the regular season.

"Game one was a tough pill to swallow for us," said head coach
Corby McGlauflin. "I am proud of how we recovered in the second game and we look forward to going again tomorrow afternoon."

Dalen Blair pitched all seven innings of game two, giving up five hits and striking out five with one earned run. He did not walk any batters.Â

Connor Lange had a team-high three RBIs, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs scored.

Mike Anthony and Matt Hmiliewski had two hits each.Â

BC put up four runs in the second frame. The highest-scoring inning of the contest. The first three Charger batters of the inning were awarded free bases, and with the bases loaded,
Cyler Melvin hit a sacrifice line out to center field to score
Jake Allen. Anthony doubled to score
Darnell Prince and Hmiliewski hit a two RBI single to right to plate Anthony and Lange.

Morningside's only run of the game came in the same inning on a home run by Michael Boomgarden.Â

Jacob Wesselmann suffered his second loss of the season in game one. He gave up seven hits and four runs (two earned) in 5.2 innings.Â

The Charger got on the board first in game one, putting up the first three runs of the game. Morningside went on to score four unanswered with three in the fifth and one in the sixth for the win.Â

Harrison Jestel went 2-for-3 to lead the Chargers.Â

The Chargers will take on the Mustangs again Sunday, this time at Bishop Mueller Field. The game is set to start at 12 p.m., one our earlier than previously scheduled, due to anticipated rain.Â
