Jestel grand slam helps Chargers take Doane series

The BC baseball team finished off its four-game weekend series at Doane Sunday with a split in Crete, Nebraska. The Chargers won game one 7-2 and flipped in game two with a 7-2 loss. Briar Cliff went 3-1 in the series over one of the GPAC's top offenses. 
 
The Chargers went ahead 3-2 in the seventh inning of game one, but a grand slam by Harrison Jestel with two outs put the game out of reach for the Tigers. 
 
With the bases loaded in the seventh, Connor Lange was walked, sending home Darnell Prince for the game-winning run. Jestel homered down the left field line to score Lange, Graham Palsma and Jake Federico
 
Jestel went 3-for-4 in the contest to go with his four RBIs. Prince also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles. Jared Sitzmann, Jake Allen and Lange had an RBI each.
 
Austin Carter gets the game one win for the Cliff to move to 2-2 on the year. He gave up one hit and tallied two strikeouts in 1.2 innings on the mound. Nicholas Cole was the starter, giving up five hits, two runs and one walk to go with eight strikeouts. 
 
Jestel and Prince had an RBI each in game two. Federico went 2-for-4. 
 
Tyler Kjose is tagged with the loss, giving up six hits and three runs. He struck out three batters. 
 
"We continued to really pitch it well today," said head coach Corby McGlauflin. "We put ourselves in good position heading into the final weekend.
 
The Chargers sit at 30-14 overall and 14-10 in conference games. They are fourth in the conference standings with one series remaining. 
 
BC has won 30 games for the first time since the 2016 season.
 
Briar Cliff will play Peru State Monday in a nonconference doubleheader before a weekend with Morningside to finish the regular season.
