Game Recap: Baseball |

Sitzmann tallies five RBIs in Charger win

Briar Cliff baseball jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in game two against Waldorf Sunday and kept its foot on the gas, putting up an incredible 23 runs to beat the Warriors 23-6. Freshman Jared Sitzmann went 2-2 at the plate with five RBIs  to lead the Cliff.

Both offenses had strong showings as Briar Cliff collected nine hits in the game and Waldorf seven in the high-scoring contest.

The Chargers notched eight runs in the fourth inning alone. Cyler Melvin, Jake Federico, Jake Allen, Dawson Forcella, Mike Anthony and Sitzmann each drove in runs during the frame. In total, six Chargers recorded multiple RBIs. Mike Anthony accounted for five of the Cliff's runs.

Nick Cole led things off on the pitcher's mound for Briar Cliff and gets the win. He allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Tyler Kjose and Ryan Pearson came in in relief for Briar Cliff.

Briar Cliff was on the wrong end of a walk-off in game one. With the game tied at 2-2 after 6.5 innings, Waldorf hit a two-run homer to get the dramatic win. Alex Kremer takes the loss for the Cliff in game one.

Mike Anthony was the only Charger to record multiple hits and had the lone RBI.

"I am proud of how the guys responded in game two after an emotional walk for our first loss of the year," said head coach Corby McGlauflin. "We got tremendous starts from both Houston and Nick today."

The Chargers will return to Sioux City to host Southwest Minnesota State on Briar Cliff's new infield turf Wednesday afternoon. The doubleheader is set to start at 1 p.m.
