Charger baseball hosted Mount Marty Saturday for the first two contests of a four-game series. The Briar Cliff offense struggled, scoring only one run on the day as the Cliff fell 2-1 and 5-0 to the Lancers.
"We couldn't get the big hit today and Mount Marty really played well," said head coach Corby
McGlauflin. "We got good pitching but it just wasn't our day offensively."Both teams put a run on the board in the second inning for the 1-1 tie through the majority of game one.
Dawson Forcellahit a double to put himself in scoring position and was driven in by
Mike Anthony for the Chargers' only run of the day.
Caid Koletzky pinch hit for the Lancers in the top of the seventh and did his job, homering over the left field fence to give Mount Marty the 2-1 lead and the win.
Jacob
Wesselmann pitched all seven innings on the bump, giving up two earned runs and totaled seven strike outs. Mount Marty outhit the Chargers 9-4.
Briar Cliff managed six hits in game two but was unable to get runs on the board.
Dalen Blair struck out six batters in five innings of work and takes the loss.
Jake Federico went 2-for-3.
The Chargers move to 19-4 (4-3 GPAC) on the year. They return to action Sunday with a doubleheader
gainst Mount Marty at Bishop Mueller Field. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
