Briar Cliff volleyball dropped a GPAC contest to #14 Northwestern Tuesday night in the Newman Flanagan Center (12-25, 15-25, 25-21, 16-25).
The Cliff battled early in set one, trailing 15-11 but a 10-1 run from the Red Raiders would close out the set. BC held an early 5-4 advantage in the second set, but Northwestern quickly gained momentum and took the set 25-15.
Briar Cliff raced out to a 9-4 lead in set three, forcing a Red Raider timeout. NWC pulled within one point of the Charger lead (16-15) and after a BC timeout the Cliff went on a 9-4 run to take set three. Northwestern held the lead for the majority of the fourth set en route to their 3-1 victory.
Tyra Blue,
Sami Wasmund and
Toria Andre led the team with seven kills apiece. Andre put down a game high eight blocks, Blue added six and Wasmund had five.
"Our block was really working tonight," said head coach
Lindsey Weatherford. "I was proud of the efficiency of our blockers and our tenacity at the net."
Tannah Heath tallied 20 digs and had one service ace.
Madilyn Wagaman dished out 15 assists and
Maureen Imrie had 14.
"Tannah played a great match of volleyball in the back row tonight," said Weatherford. "She read the NWC hitters well and moved toward the ball with confidence!"
The Blue and Gold hit the road next traveling to Omaha, Nebraska for a matchup against College of Saint Mary at 7:30 p.m.
