The Briar Cliff women's soccer team scored five goals in the first half against Northwestern Saturday night to start its 2020 home season with a win.  Flor Suarez picked up right where she left off Wednesday night, as the senior scored two more goals. 

"To go from 0-0 to 5-1 against Northwestern in the space of eight days shows the level of hard work and dedication the team has put in," said head coach Paul Cox "We did our homework and executed our game plan well again today."

Ariana Rodriquez opened up the scoring for the Chargers in the 19th minute off an assist from Gemma White. The Chargers would score again three minutes later as Gisselle Jimenez found the back of the net, assisted by Flor Suarez. In the 36th minutes Suarez was able to beat the goalkeeper scoring an unassisted goal, and a minute later scored her second goal of the night with White recording her second assist of the game. Gabi Rosa also added a goal tonight in the 42nd minute, assisted by Hannah Shuttleworth.

Ruby Campa played all 90 minutes in goal for the Cliff making two saves. While the duo of Kaelin Alons and April Van Tol made five saves for the Red Raiders.

As a team, BC outshot Northwestern 20-6 and 12-3 shots on goal. The Chargers also held an advantage in corner kicks 8-5 but were called for more fouls than the Red Raiders 9-7.  

"This is the third game and third different starting line up so we are showing our depth and versatility," said Cox.

BC moves to 2-0-1 on the season and 2-0 in the GPAC.  The Chargers will be off until Saturday when they host Mount Marty at Faber Field.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
