Box Score The Briar Cliff women's soccer team opened GPAC play Wednesday evening with a convincing 5-0 win at Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Flor Suarez tallied a hat trick and an assist in the contest.
"What a great performance," said head coach
Paul Cox. "To come to a top-four team from last season and perform the way we did is very encouraging."
The Chargers dominated possession and took eight shots before Suarez's first score. The senior bagged her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute and her second just five minutes later, assisted by
Bailee Hackley and
Taylor Hill, respectively. The second goal game in astonishing fashion as Suarez received a cross from Hill in the six-yard box, flicked the ball over her defender and put a clean finish into the opposite corner of the net.
Suarez recorded her third goal in the 55th minute and helped out on a goal by Hill just a minute later to finalize her contribution to the stat sheet.
Gisselle Jimenez rounded out the Charger with three minutes to play in the contest.
"I am so proud of the ladies' heart and desire," added Cox. "I could not be happier with Flor and Sonja. We asked
Sonja Rao to play a position she's never played 20 minutes before kickoff and she was a natural. Flor deserved her hat trick and her second goal belongs in an art gallery."
Suarez led all players with seven shots, putting five on frame. Hill was just behind her with six shots and Jimenez added three. Maddie Regnerus led the Dordt squad with two shots.
Ruby Campa only needed to make two stops for the Cliff while the Defenders' DeLynne Zevenbergen made seven saves.
The Chargers move to 1-0-1 on the season. They will host Northwestern at 1 p.m. Saturday at Faber Field.
