Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blue and Gold draw at Northwestern

Charger women's soccer traveled to Orange City, Iowa Friday for a nonconference match against Northwestern. BC came away with a 0-0 draw against the Red Raiders despite playing with 10 players for more than 45 minutes of the contest.

"This was a really fun game," said head coach Paul Cox. "Although I disagree with the decision that put us down to 10 players, we know it's part of the game. We played with 10 for 50 minutes and still created the most dangerous attempts of the game in that time. Ruby came up with a penalty save and I am really happy to start the season with a clean sheet."

Although the game was scoreless, both sides saw plenty of action with 36 total shots and 25 total fouls. Five cards were shown in the contest, four to Briar Cliff and one to Northwestern. Leikela Lunt was sent off in the 61st minute after fouling in an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, forcing the Chargers to adjust their lineup.

Ruby Campa came up huge for the Chargers in the 30th minute with a penalty save to keep the match scoreless. The senior made eight saves on the night, including stopping a breakaway opportunity for Northwestern.

Bailee Hackley was the shot leader for Briar Cliff. The junior notched four shots with three on frame while Lunt and Ariana Rodriguez added three shots each.

Maria Lopes and Emily Hurley each took four shots for Northwestern and Kaelin Alons made 14 saves in net.

BC and Northwestern both start the year at 0-0-1. After opening conference play Wednesday at Dordt, Briar Cliff will host the Red Raiders in GPAC action Saturday, September 19 at Faber Field.
