The Briar Cliff football team dropped a 17-10 decision to Jamestown at Memorial Field Saturday. Both teams now sit at 1-6 overall and in the GPAC.
Briar Cliff's first offensive possession started pinned instead their own ten yard line. After a three-and-out and a 31 yard punt, the Jamestown offense took the field on the BC 33 yard line. Four plays later Cade Torgerson found Javon Bowie in the corner of the endzone for a seven yard touchdown.Â
After a Jamestown three-and-out the Chargers took over on their own 44 yard line. With fourth and three on the Jamestown 38 the offense stayed on the field and
Cayden Mitchell completed a 29 yard pass to
Aaron Okoro. The offense would stall and settle for a 24 yard field goal from
Jonathan Branner to make the score 7-3.
With 30 seconds before the half the Jamestown defense forced a turnover taking over at the Briar Cliff 40 yard line. A 15-yard personal foul brought the Jimmies within striking distance with 14 seconds left. Torgerson connected with Micah Madyun in the back of the endzone splitting the defense to go up 14-3.
After three-and-outs by both teams to start the third quarter BC went on an 11 play 51 yard drive capped off by a one yard QB sneak from Mitchell to cut the Jamestown lead 14-10. The Jimmies answered with a 8 play 50 yard drive resulting in a 32 yard field goal. BC's last scoring opportunity came early in the fourth quarter on the Jamestown six yard line. The defense would make a stand resulting in a Charger turnover on downs.Â
Briar Cliff had 257 yards of total offense with 123 on the ground and 134 through the air.
King Waller continues to run hard for the Blue and Gold rushing for 72 yards on 15 carries for an average of 4.5 and added one reception for 21 yards. Mitchell completed nine of 18 passes for 134 yards and one rushing touchdown.
Ryan Kotey had a game high 57 receiving yards on four catches.Â
MJ Montgomery turned in a strong performance on the defensive line racking up 13 tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Montgomery and
Robert Robinson combined for the only Briar Cliff sack.
Mike Green had seven tackles and
Brandon Faatalale recorded six tackles and one pass breakup.
Torgerson completed 16 of 29 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns for the Jimmies. He was also the leading rusher with 71 yards on 14 carries.
