The Charger women's soccer continued its impressive goal scoring run Wednesday with an 8-0 win over Mount Marty at Faber Field. In total, the Cliff has outscored opponents 37-2 this season and holds a 7-0-2 (7-0-1) record.
Â
Flor Suarez, the reigning GPAC Offensive Player of the Week, matched the Briar Cliff women's soccer program record with four goals in the contest. Three other Chargers in history have achieved this feat, most recently done by Makenna Taylor in 2016.
Â
Ariana Rodriguez put the Chargers on the board in the 12th minute of the contest and the home team rolled from there, scoring five first-half goals and adding three in the second 45 minutes.
Megan Siqueiros,
Kenna Larosee and
Sonja Rao also added scores for the Cliff.
Â
"
Flor Suarez showed once again how clinical and composed she can be," said head coach
Paul Cox. "Her work rate has made her a top player in our conference.
Gemma White was also absolutely brilliant for us in midfield today. She controlled the tempo of the game and helped us on both sides of the ball."
Â
As of the final whistle Wednesday, Suarez leads the GPAC in total goals despite playing three fewer games than the next closest player.Â
Â
In total, the Chargers outshot the Lancers 23-1 with a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Ruby Campa and
Adriana Huerta each played 90 minutes in goal with neither needing to make a save.Â
Â
"It's always great to have as many different goal scorers as we did today," added Cox. "Plus, I'm happy we were able to get
Adriana Huerta on to share the shutout with Ruby."
Â
Suarez had a game-high eight shots for the Cliff with six on frame.
Hannah Shuttleworth had three shots for BC.
Â
Lancer goalkeeper Jamie Tebben made seven stops for Mount Marty.
Â
Briar Cliff will look to continue its winning ways Saturday with a conference test at Dakota Wesleyan. That contest is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. in Mitchell, South Dakota.
