The Briar Cliff men's soccer team battled the Midland University Warriors to a 1-1 draw Saturday night.
Briar Cliff struck early as
Philipp Kalz found the back of the net in the 10th minute off an assist from
Aime Oettler, giving the Chargers a 1-0 advantage. Briar Cliff carried the lead into halftime after outshooting Midland 7-6 in the opening 45 minutes.
The Chargers held onto the one-goal advantage deep into the second half before Midland's Jaime Jerez scored the equalizer in the 87th minute. Neither side was able to break the tie in the remaining minutes, resulting in the 1-1 draw.
Kalz led the Charger attack with four shots with two on goal, while
Alejandro Illan and
Ismael Khiyati Azzouzi each put a shot on frame. Oettler recorded the assist on the lone Charger goal.
Lucas Attanasio made four saves in goal for Briar Cliff. The Chargers finished with nine shots and four on target, while Midland recorded 13 shots with five on goal.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday October 3, hosting Concordia University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
