The Charger men's soccer team cruised past the Maharishi Pioneers 7-1 Sunday afternoon improving to 3-0 on the season.
Mario Granjo got the Chargers on the board early, scoring in the fourth minute off an assist from
Ignacio Barrios .Maharishi answered just over six minutes later to tie the match at 1-1, but Granjo quickly responded with his second goal of the afternoon in the 11th minute to put BCU back in front.
David Utsi-Grinde extended the Charger lead in the 26th minute, scoring off an assist from Granjo to give Briar Cliff a 3-1 advantage heading into halftime.Â
The Chargers continued their offensive attack in the second half, with
Oscar Seliger scoring in the 61st minute off an assist from
Alejandro Illan. Just under four minutes later, Barrios found the back of the net, again assisted by Illan, to make it 5-1.
Aime Oettler added another goal in the 68th minute before Utsi-Grinde capped the scoring with his second goal of the match in the 82nd minute, assisted by
Iker Rossello Hurtado.
Granjo led the Chargers with two goals and an assist, while Utsi-Grinde also scored twice. Illan recorded two assists, and Figueroa and Rossello each added an assist. Briar Cliff dominated the shot battle 27-6 and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Lucas Attanasio recorded one save in the victory.
Briar Cliff returns to action Wednesday, September 2, traveling to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
