The Briar Cliff men's soccer team rallied past the University of Saint Mary Spires 2-1 Wednesday evening in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Saint Mary's struck first in the 31st minute off a goal by Roberto Garcia Gomez, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Chargers continued to pressure in the second half and found the equalizer in the 80th minute when Ignacio Barrios scored off an assist from Ruben Figueroa to even the match at 1-1.
Just two minutes later, Mario Granjo found the back of the net to give BCU its first lead of the night. Granjo's unassisted strike in the 82nd minute proved to be the game-winner as the Chargers held on for the 2-1 victory.
Briar Cliff controlled the offensive attack, holding a 19-9 advantage in shots and putting 15 shots on target. The Chargers also held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Lucas Attanasio recorded two saves in goal, while Granjo led BCU with three shots on target. Angjelos Arapi also recorded two shots on target, while Barrios finished with two shots and one goal.
The Chargers return to action Sunday, August 30, hosting Maharishi University. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
