The Charger baseball team defeated the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in their doubleheader Monday afternoon, winning game one 10-5 before a walk-off 3-2 win in game two.

Game one – W, 10-5
Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings, capitalizing on early miscues and a three-run home run by Caleb Meyers in the second inning. The Tigers took advantage of Briar Cliff errors to build the early cushion.

The Cliff responded in the bottom of the second inning, erupting for five runs to tie the game. The Chargers used patience at the plate and timely hitting, highlighted by a two-RBI single from
Cade Marquardt and an RBI knock from
Grant Devecsery.

After several scoreless innings, Briar Cliff broke the tie in the fifth, plating four runs to take control.
Connor Neubeck delivered a key RBI double, while
Nico Sall added a two-run single and Marquardt followed with another RBI hit to push the lead to 9-5.

The Chargers added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by
Greyson Kay.

Nick Hays earned the win on the mound for Briar Cliff, tossing a complete game while allowing five runs on three hits and striking out nine. He worked out of multiple situations after the second inning to keep Dakota Wesleyan off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Alex Mizsak took the loss for Dakota Wesleyan after surrendering eight runs over 4 1/3 innings.

Marquardt led BC at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, while Sall also drove in three runs.
Jake Christianson added two hits and scored twice for the Chargers.

Meyers accounted for the bulk of Dakota Wesleyan's offense with a three-run home run and three RBIs.

Game two – W, 3-2
The Tigers struck first with two runs in the opening inning, using three hits to take an early lead. Joseph Tharaldson delivered an RBI single, and the Tigers added another run on a heads-up baserunning play.

Briar Cliff answered in the bottom of the second inning, tying the game at 2-2.
Cael Walrod provided the key hit with a two-RBI single to center field, scoring
Brody Nardini and
Raenan Padilla.
From there, both pitchers settled in. Briar Cliff's
Brock Saya and Dakota Wesleyan's Caleb Meyers traded scoreless innings, with Saya limiting the Tigers to four hits while striking out seven over a complete-game effort.

The Chargers broke through in the bottom of the seventh.
Jake Christianson led off with a walk and moved into scoring position before Walrod delivered again, lining a walk-off RBI single to center field to score the winning run.

Saya earned the win for Briar Cliff, improving to 4-1 on the season, while Meyers took the loss after allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings.

Walrod led the Chargers offensively with two hits and all three RBIs, while
Nico Sall added a hit. Christianson scored the game-winning run.

The Chargers improve to 15-18 (8-6 GPAC) and will travel to Mitchell, South Dakota this Wednesday to complete the four-game series against Dakota Wesleyan. Game one is slated for 1 p.m. with game two to follow shortly after.
