BRIAR CLIFF BATTLES THROUGH MONDAY ROAD DOUBLEHEADER

The Briar Cliff softball team fell Monday evening in a doubleheader against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers, falling 6–1 in game one and battling to a 6–4 loss in game two.

Game 1 vs. Dakota Wesleyan – L, 6–1
BCU was outscored early in the opener and fell 6–1 despite outhitting the Tigers with an 8–5 advantage.

DWU jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on timely hits and productive outs. Dakota Wesleyan added two more in the third on a two-run home run to center field by Johnson.

Lauryn Mattox took the loss in the circle, working 3.1 innings while allowing six runs, five earned, on four hits. She struck out one and walked four.

The Chargers collected eight hits offensively, led by Elizabeth Austin with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Shelby Blankenship drove in Briar Cliff's lone run and finished 1-for-3 on the day.

Game 2 vs. Dakota Wesleyan – L, 6–4
Briar Cliff again outhit Dakota Wesleyan in game two, but a big fifth inning by the Tigers erased an early Charger lead in a 6–4 loss.

The Chargers built a 4–0 advantage through the first four innings, with Brooke Oppliger delivering an RBI double in the fourth. Briar Cliff looked in control before Dakota Wesleyan responded with a six-run fifth inning to take the lead for good.

The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Yost as the Tigers flipped the momentum.

Aubrey White took the loss in the circle after working 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on four hits while striking out two.

Offensively, Briar Cliff totaled eight hits, with Kenadee Loew and Austin each recording two-hit performances. Leah Montes, Loew, Oppliger, and Sydney Mennenga each drove in a run for the Chargers.

Briar Cliff returns to action this Saturday, April 4 hosting the Waldorf Warriors for senior day. Game times are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
