The Charger baseball shutout the Hastings Broncos in their doubleheader Saturday, winning game one 18-0 and game two 13-0 in Hastings, Nebraska.

Game one – W, 18-0
The Chargers wasted little time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. After a leadoff walk by
Cael Walrod and a hit-by-pitch to
Nico Sall,
Cade Marquardt delivered an RBI single to score the first run of the game. Later in the inning,
Brody Nardini added a two-RBI single to give Briar Cliff the early 3-0 advantage.

Briar Cliff broke the game open in the second inning, plating seven runs on eight hits. Marquardt started the rally with a two-run double before Nardini and
Jake Christianson each drove in runs.
Greyson Kay capped the inning with a two-RBI double to push the Charger lead to 10-0 after two innings.

The Chargers continued to add to their lead throughout the afternoon. A sacrifice fly from
Grant Devecsery brought in a run in the third inning, while Marquardt delivered another two-run double in the fourth to extend the lead to 14-0. Kay added two more RBIs with a double in the fifth, and Nardini drove in two runs with a single in the sixth to round out the scoring.

On the mound,
Brock Saya turned in a complete-game performance for the Chargers. The right-hander scattered six hits across seven innings while striking out five and walking two to earn the win.

Marquardt led Briar Cliff at the plate, going four-for-four with two doubles and five RBIs. Nardini also drove in five runs, finishing three-for-four, while Kay collected three hits and five RBIs with three doubles. Christianson added two hits and three runs scored, and
Damon Schmid recorded two hits and two runs.

Game two – W, 13-0

After two scoreless innings, the Chargers broke the game open in the third inning with a nine-run frame.
Cael Walrod got the scoring started with an RBI single before
Jake Christianson added another run-scoring hit.
Damon Schmid delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a three-RBI triple to extend the Briar Cliff lead. The Chargers also took advantage of several Hastings errors during the inning to build a 9-0 advantage.

Briar Cliff added to the lead in the sixth inning when Schmid drove in a run with a single before
Brady Rempel followed with an RBI base hit to push the lead to 11-0.

The Chargers added two more runs in the seventh inning. Schmid brought home a run with a groundout before
Grant Devecsery scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.

Johnny Reed earned the win on the mound for Briar Cliff, tossing six shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out one.
Brett Sitzmann closed the game with a scoreless inning in relief.

Schmid led the Charger offense, finishing two-for-five with five RBIs and a triple. Nardini added two hits, while Walrod, Christianson, Devecsery and Rempel each recorded hits in the win.

The Chargers improved to 10-13 (3-1 GPAC) and will return to the Bishop Mueller Complex next Friday, as they host the Northwestern Red Raiders. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
