The Charger men's basketball team dropped a road conference contest Wednesday night, falling to Dordt 98–63 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Briar Cliff led briefly early after a
Ryan Kleppe three-pointer made it 5-2, but Dordt responded with a steady run and never trailed again. The Defenders built a 40-31 halftime advantage and used a strong shooting second half to pull away, outscoring the Chargers 58-32 over the final 20 minutes.
Jaxson Wingert paced Briar Cliff with 19 points, going 9-of-10 at the free-throw line and adding a pair of three-pointers.
Blake Sindelar added eight points and five assists, while Kleppe and
Colby Collison each chipped in seven.
The Cliff had a cold shooting night, converting on 37.7% from the field and 24.2% from beyond the arc. The Chargers converted on 15-of-19 attempts from the free throw line.
Dordt shot 52.2% from the field and 48.1% from three, including an 11-for-18 effort from deep in the second half. Ty Van Essen led the Defenders with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Connor Millikan added 23 points and eight boards.
The Chargers move to 12-13 (9-9 GPAC) and will return to the Newman Flanagan Center this Saturday, as they host the Concordia Bulldogs inside the Newman Flanagan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. The Chargers will honor their seniors prior to tip-off.
