The Briar Cliff women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Concordia University Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Faber Field, moving to 5-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in GPAC.
After a scoreless first half, Concordia broke through in the 50th minute when Guadalupe Sanchez scored off an assist from Kianna Perez. Sanchez added her second goal of the afternoon in the 83rd minute, assisted by Abby Haynes, to extend the Bulldogs' lead to 2-0.Â
The Chargers were held to seven shots, including three on goal, while Concordia recorded 19 shots and 13 on target.
Caitlin Anderholm turned in a strong performance in goal, making eight saves to keep Briar Cliff within striking distance throughout the match.
Briar Cliff's three shots on goal came from
Ondine Manceau,
Anggy Villena, and
Therese Molin. Molin finished with two shots, while
Elena Ochoa also added two attempts.Â
The Chargers continued to battle late, with Molin forcing a save in the 82nd minute before adding another shot just over a minute later. Anderholm also made her eighth save in the 87th minute to keep Concordia from adding to its advantage.
The Chargers return to action on October 7, hosting Dordt Defenders. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
