The 13
th-ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team put together a strong road performance on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Doane Tigers, 77-64, in GPAC action.
After a competitive opening quarter, the Chargers took control before halftime, leading the Tigers 34-32. BCU held Doane to just 12 points in the third quarter, then pulled away in the fourth by shooting efficiently and capitalizing at the free-throw line to secure the double-digit victory.
Freshman
Abby Lee led all scorers with 22 points, adding eight rebounds, four steals, and a block while going 7-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free- throw line.
Mallie McNair followed with 14 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting effort, while also grabbing four rebounds.
Brooklyn Heineman filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven assists.
Mallory Leerar provided a spark off the Charger bench with nine points, knocking down three three-pointers.
As a team, the Chargers shot 41 percent from the field and went 19-of-23 from the free-throw line, while holding a 41-35 rebounding advantage. BCU forced 20 turnovers compared to Doanes 17.
With the win, Briar Cliff improves to 12-3 and 6-3 in GPAC play. The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, January 7, taking on Midland in the Newman Flanagan Center. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
