The Charger men's basketball team defeated the Hastings Broncos 66–65 Saturday afternoon in Hastings, Nebraska.
The Chargers built a 10-point second-half lead and survived a last-second 3-pointer from Hastings' DaRon Hall as time expired. Hall's shot cut the final margin to one but came after Briar Cliff had iced the game at the free-throw line.
Wingert finished 7-of-11 from the field and added five free throws, while
Blake Sindelar added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a full 40-minute effort.
Dawson Mohr chipped in 12 points off the bench, knocking down four 3-pointers, and
Colby Collison contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
The Cliff led 36–33 at halftime after shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc in the opening half and extended its advantage to double digits midway through the second half. The Chargers' largest lead came at 54–44 with 12:56 remaining.
Hastings was led by Hall, who poured in a game-high 34 points on 15-of-25 shooting. He scored 21 of those points in the second half. Myles Simon added nine points, while Ben Boudreau pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Sindelar sealed the win by hitting two free throws with four seconds left, pushing the lead to four before Hall's final 3-pointer.
BC shot 43.4 percent from the floor and went 11-of-16 at the line, while Hastings finished at 45.6 percent shooting but was held to 4-of-21 from beyond the arc.
The Cliff move to 11-10 (8-6 GPAC) and will travel to Mitchell, South Dakota next Wednesday, as they take on Dakota Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
