The 16^th-ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team earned a solid 64-53 home victory over the Mount Marty Lancers on Saturday afternoon inside the Newman Flanagan Center. 
 
The Chargers set the tone early, building a 19-12 lead by the end of the first quarter. BCU continued to control the pace in the second period, outscoring MMU 20-12 to take a 39-24 advantage into halftime. Mount Marty made a push coming out of the break, holding Briar Cliff to eight points in the third quarter, but the Chargers responded in the fourth to secure the win.
 
Brooklyn Heineman led the way for the Chargers, tallying a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Mallie McNair added 10 points along with two assists and two blocks, while Abby Lee contributed a strong all-around performance with seven points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and a steal. 
 
Taylor Sodeman chipped in nine for the chargers, along with two blocks. Kinzee Hinders provided a spark off the bench with seven points, shooting a perfect 3-for-3, and Natalie Tietjen added six points. 
 
As a team, BCU shot 35.7% from the field and finished 12-for-15 at the free-throw line. Briar Cliff matched Mount Marty on the glass with 36 rebounds, forced 25 turnovers, and capitalized with a 14-2 edge in points off turnovers, while also holding a 20-7 advantage in fast break scoring.
 
The Chargers now move to 15-4 on the season and 9-4 in GPAC play. They return to action on Wednesday, January 21, hosting Waldorf. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
