The Charger men's basketball defeated Mayville State 80–73 behind a balanced offensive effort and an a strong first-half start.
The Chargers jumped out to a 42–30 halftime lead, fueled by efficient shooting and aggressive defense that forced turnovers and limited Mayville's rhythm. Briar Cliff led by as many as 18 points midway through the second half before the Comets rallied late.
Blake Sindelar and Jaxson Wingert powered Briar Cliff's attack, each scoring 23 points. Sindelar filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists, while Wingert added six boards and seven made free throws. Colby Collison provided a key spark with 14 points and six rebounds, and Wil Lugar contributed 10 points and steady defense on the perimeter.
As a team, the Chargers shot 49% from the field and notched 20 points off turnovers, capitalizing on Mayville's 13 giveaways. Briar Cliff also recorded 10 steals in the contest.
Mayville State was led by Christian Bowen-Webb, who poured in 24 points on four made three-pointers. Darius Brant added 20 points and eight rebounds, and Malik Siggers chipped in 16 points.
Briar Cliff improved to 2–2 and will return to the Newman Flanagan Center next Tuesday, as they host York (NE). Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
