The Briar Cliff women's basketball team kept its perfect start intact Wednesday night, rolling past Peru State 88-58 on the road in Peru, Nebraska.
The Chargers (6-0) controlled the game from start to finish, using a 27-point second quarter to break the game open and carrying that momentum through a dominant defensive second half in which they held the Bobcats to just 21 total points.
Abby Lee powered the Cliff with a standout performance, posting 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals while shooting 8-for-13 from the field.
Mallie McNair added 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals, going 8-for-12 from the floor.
Brooklyn Heineman added 8 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals, while
Taylor Sodeman contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Kenna Mongan also supplied 7 points and 3 assists.
The Charger bench produced 20 points behind an efficient outing from
Mallory Leerar (9 points on 4-for-5 shooting).
Briar Cliff shot 54.7% from the field and held Peru State to 44.4%, while forcing 26 Bobcat turnovers. The Cliff also dominated the paint, 52-38, and won the rebounding battle, 32-27.
The Chargers return to action Saturday for their first conference match-up, heading to Omaha, Nebraska, to take on the College of Saint Mary. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
