The Charger wrestling team opened their season with a strong performance at the Pepsi Patriot Open in Corbin, Kentucky. 
Dante Rigal went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend and won the 133-pound division.
 
"Overall, I was pleased with the effort of our guys today," said Head Coach 
Donaco Watts. "I can honestly say that most of our losses came from a slight mental lapse or maybe even lack of experience in certain scenarios, all of which are easily fixable through film and good reps."
 
Freshman 
Tyden Schultz finished second in the tournament, beginning his tournament run with four straight victories. 
Parker Leverknight went 5-1 and placed third in his first collegiate tournament while fellow freshman 
Dyllon Carpenter finished the day going 3-2.
 
Erik Lessears and 
Jeremiah Bethel both went 3-2 on the day while 
Jackson Balmer went 2-2 and defeated the 20
th ranked wrestler at 165 by fall in the open division.
 
Jarrod Gilliam went 5-2 and finished fourth at the 133-pound division.

The Charger wrestling team will return to action next Friday, as they host Buena Vista University inside the Newman Flanagan Center. First match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
