The 5
th ranked Charger women's basketball team stormed back in the fourth quarter to beat the RV Northwestern Red Raiders 66-60 victory at the Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa.
The Red Raiders jumped to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter and extended their lead to 35-25 by halftime. The Chargers struggled to find the bottom of the net in the first half, as they shot nine-for-29 from the field.
Briar Cliff struggled offensively in the third quarter, only scoring 8 points and shot three-for-16 from the field in the quarter. Northwestern maintained the lead at 48-33 heading into the final period.
The Chargers rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Red Raiders 33- 12. BCU shot 64% from the field and converted on 12 of their 15 free throw attempts. After a quiet first three quarters,
Mallie McNair scored a team-high 19 points in the fourth alone. She went a perfect nine-for-nine at the charity stripe, shot four-for-five from the field, and knocked down a pair of threes.
Adrianna Webster added 16 points and grabbed six rebounds while recording a team-high four steals.
Kennedy Benne chipped in 11 points, three steals, and two assists.
Brooklyn Heineman and
Grace Flanagan each added seven points and grabbed three rebounds.
Molly Schany for Northwestern recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Allison Piercy chipped in 10 points.
The Charger defense forced 24 turnovers and and recorded 10 steals in the contest. The Red Raiders finished the night shooting 40% from the field and 26% from three.
Briar Cliff improves to 18-3 (12-3 GPAC) and will return to action this Saturday, as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Flames of College of Saint Mary. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
