The Charger men's basketball team earned a hard fought 89-74 victory over the Waldorf Warriors Wednesday evening inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
Â
"I liked the intensity and the urgency we started the game with tonight, being able to build a lead in the first half is a nice thing and I thought coming out of the half we were able to sustain for a good 10-12 minutes and played with a real killer instinct," said Head Coach
Mark Svagera. "
Blake Sindelar and
Wil Lugar were great offensively, Matt Stillwill continues to direct for us."
Â
Blake Sindelar posted a double-double with 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field.
Wil Lugar added 20 points and recorded a team-high five steals in the contest.
Â
The Chargers in the first half built a ten-point lead following a pair of threes from
Matthew Stilwill and Lugar to lead 16-6. A basket from
Jamison Helmers off an assist from Lugar capped off the scoring for The Cliff as they led 45-29 heading into halftime.
Â
With 9:52 remaining in the contest, a layup from Helmers extended the lead to 31.
Â
Stilwill finished with 18 points and went a perfect six-for-six from the field and five-for-five from the free throw line. Helmers chipped in 13 points while
Jaxson Wingert finished with 11 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Â
"It was good for us to bounce back, we had a tough loss last Saturday, we talked about bouncing back and guys did that and were going to continue to push forward into the weekend." said Svagera.
Â
The Chargers improve to 10-8 (5-5 GPAC) and will hit the road to take on the Doane Tigers in Crete, Nebraska. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
