The Charger men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Vikings of Grandview in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings in the first half applied pressure in their attacking side early, creating a chance in the early moments of the game. Charger keeper Phillip Haenel kept the Vikings at bay, recording two saves in the first 10 minutes of the contest.

Haenel faced seven shots in the first half and made three saves to keep the Vikings scoreless.

The Chargers opened the second half with a strike from
Yalin Alici off an assist from Andrew Buchannan.

In the 53
rd minute, the Vikings responded with a chance of their own, scoring a goal from Benedikt Zechmeister from an assist from Warren Sung.

The Vikings went up 2-1 late following a goal from Pietro Piacenza off another assist from Sung.

Haenel finished the match with five saves after spending all 90 minutes in goal for the Blue and Gold.

Grandview held the advantage in shots 11-4 and corner kicks 4-1.

The Chargers will have a quick turnaround, as they travel to Oskaloosa, Iowa to take on the 14
th ranked Statesman of William Penn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
