Chargers Fire Ace To Close Out Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. – Freshman Jack Bloom fired a hole-in-one as the Briar Cliff University men's golf team finished the final day of the Blue River Classic.

The tournament was played at Highlands Golf Course, a Par-72.

Indian Hills CC shot -32 (279-274-279) to win by 34 strokes over Iowa Western CC (+2 / 288-278-300). Rounding out the top five was Northeast CC (Neb.) (3^rd - +7 / 292-291-288), Doane (4^th / +10 (298-287-289) and Morningside (5^th - +16 / 289-294-297).

Briar Cliff tied for eighth at +38 (301-296-305).

Individually, Facundo Moraga (Indian Hills CC) and Emilio Arellano (Indian Hills CC) tied at -10 to win by four strokes over Chris Richards (Indian Hills CC).

Freshman Joris Scharli was 14^th at +2 (74-71-73=218). He had 28 pars and a team-high 13 birdies.

Senior Karter Lein tied for 15^th at +3 (74-69-76=219). He hit nine birdies with a team leading 34 pars.

Senior Gregorio Fernandez tied for 23^rd at +6 (74-74-74=222). He recorded nine birdies and 31 pars.

Freshman Jack Bloom was 70^th at +27 (79-82-82=243). He had a hole-in-one on Hole #14, a 200-yard Par 3, his first collegiate ace. Bloom, who was using a 2 iron, had the only ace of the tournament.

Freshman Braden Fleischman tied for 77^th at +34 (80-86-84=250).

Competing as an individual:
Freshman Oliver Kardos tied for 74^th at +32 (83-80-85=248).

We keep knocking down small mental barriers each week, which in turn will turn into big hurdles in the coming weeks, months, and years for the underclass players. It was really cool to be a part of Jack's (Bloom) hole-in-one today. And for his first to be a 200+ yard hole into the wind was spectacular. Watch out for these guys down the road, good things are to come!"

Briar Cliff is off until Mon-Tuesday, Oct. 7-8, when they compete at The Mustang Derby. The tournament is being played at Dakota Dunes Country Club (Dakota Dunes, S.D.) and Whispering Creek Golf Course (Sioux City, Iowa).
