Briar Cliff Fights To The End

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – It was 90 minutes of effort as the Briar Cliff University women's soccer team (0-2-1 GPAC, 0-7-1) lost 3-1 to #25 Hastings (2-0 GPAC, 6-1-2), Saturday afternoon at Faber Field.

For the first 23 minutes, Briar Cliff and Hastings played a tactical game.  At the 22:16 mark, junior Addison Frisch blasted a shot that was saved at the last minute.

In the span of a minute, the Broncos struck twice to take a 2-0 lead with just under 21 minutes left.  In the last five minutes of the first half, Hastings made three amazing plays to keep the Chargers at bay.

In the second half, BCU continued to push forward.  Freshman Tamzin Hilton and sophomore Sina Morl had potential goals taken away by the strong play of the Bronco keeper.

Hastings scored with less than 16 minutes to go.  Briar Cliff had two near misses in the last six minutes.  With 28 seconds left, junior Manu Polachini converted a penalty kick.

Briar Cliff had 10 shots with seven on goal, three corner kicks and were called for eight fouls.  Senior Jaime Rowlands had nine saves.

Hastings had 19 shots with 12 on goal, three corner kicks and were called for 14 fouls.  Jackson Pedersen had six saves.

Briar Cliff remains home, Wednesday, Sept. 25, taking on Morningside.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
