Fernandez Chasing The Leaders

YANKTON, S.D. – Senior Gregorio Fernandez is among the top 10 as the Briar Cliff University men's golf team finished day one of the Mount Marty Invite.

The tournament is being played at the Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, a Par-72.

Morningside shot 296 (+8) and leads by a stroke over Doane "B" and Northeast Community College. Rounding out the top five are Doane (4^th - +10 – 298) and Morningside "B" (5^th - +11 – 299).

Briar Cliff is ninth at +25 (313).

Individually, Ted Bengston of Mount Marty shot -3 (69) and leads by one stroke over Luke Bonser (Northeast CC) and Jacob Harnden (Northeast CC).

Fernandez is tied for fourth at -1 (71). He leads the tournament with 15 pars.

Senior Karter Lein and freshman Joris Scharli are tied for 38^th at +6 (78).

Lein is tied for sixth in birdies (4).

Scharli ranks among the top 10 in pars (11).

Freshman Oliver Kardos is tied for 73^rd at +14 (86).

Senior Cade Pepper is tied for 80^th at +19 (91).

Freshman Jack Bloom is tied for 31^st at +5 (77). He is among the top 10 in pars (11).

Freshman Braden Fleischman is tied for 51^st at +8 (80). He is among the top 10 in pars (12).

Sophomore Domenick Herbst is tied for 80^th at +19 (91).

Briar Cliff closes out the Mount Marty Invite, Tuesday, Aug. 27.
