CHARGERS SEE JIMMIES MOVE ON

SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Senior Kylee Lukes had four hits as the Briar Cliff University softball team (0-2 GPAC, 12-11) lost 13-1 and 8-5 to Jamestown (2-0 GPAC, 16-5), Thursday afternoon at Bishop Mueller Complex.

Game - 1
Briar Cliff struck first in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, junior Jessica James walked and Lukes singled.

A fielder's choice from senior Aubrey Chichurka forced Lukes out and moved James to third.  Junior Kylie Wilhelms smashed a double to right field to score James.  That put the Chargers up 1-0.

Jamestown scored 13 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take control.

For Briar Cliff, Lukes had two hits.  Junior Georgia Krohn (5-4) gave up eight hits and six runs in four innings.

For Jamestown, Hope Ransome (6-1) gave up six hits, one run, walked two and struck out five in five innings.

Game – 2
In the first inning, the Jimmies scored twice for the early lead.  In the bottom half, with one out, James and Lukes singled and each advanced a base on a ground out.

Wilhelms singled through the left side to clear the bases.  Aggressive running put Wilhelms on second when time was called.

An error in the outfield allowed Wilhelms to score putting the Chargers up 3-2.  In the bottom of the second inning, junior Karis Gifford reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on back-to-back passed balls.

Lukes delivered a single to score Gifford and make it 4-2, BCU.  In the top of the third, JU had a runner on with one out.  Briar Cliff turned a double play to end the threat.

Jamestown scored six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to effectively seal the game.

For Briar Cliff, freshman Skylar Bainter and Lukes had two hits each.  Sophomore Grace Batcheller (4-3) gave up 12 hits, eight runs with five earned, walked two and struck out four in seven innings.

For Jamestown, Abby Blair (6-3) gave up nine hits, five runs with three earned and walked two in seven innings.

Briar Cliff hits the road, Saturday, Mar. 23 taking on Dakota Wesleyan.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
