Allen And Lessears Earn Runner-Up Finishes

CRETE, Neb. – Senior Alton Allen and freshman Erik Lessears finished second as the Briar Cliff University wrestling team (Receiving Votes) (1-1 GPAC, 1-4) competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Donae Open, Saturday. The Chargers had four Top Four performances.

In the Open Division at 285-lbs, Allen outscored his four opponents 25-7 to advance to the final. Two of the wins came over #17 Corbin Hayes (Embry-Riddle – Ariz.) and #19 Wilbert Martin (Texas Wesleyan).

In the Amateur Division, BCU had three top four finishers. At 174-lbs, Lessears won four matches by a combined score of 42-12 to reach the championship match. Earning fourth place finishes were freshmen Dariuz Black (133-lbs) and Mikey Foster (165).

"I can honestly say that this was our best performance of the season. It is the way I wanted us to finish the first semester: with some momentum going into Christmas break and renewed excitement for the stretch run from January to March. We still have a long way to go, but we are slowing starting to see a lot of the little details we've been preaching come to fruition. We had an abundance of solid individual outings, from Alton (Allen) and Erik (Lessears) making the finals, Dariuz (Black) and Mikey (Foster)placing top four, and Dante (Rigal), Evan (Fuchs), Jesus (Sanchez) and Jackson (Balmer) picking up multiple wins. "

Briar Cliff is off until Saturday, Jan. 4 when they compete at the Under Armour Invite. The tournament is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
