Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chargers bow out of opening round of GPAC Tournament

The Charger men's soccer team's season came to a conclusion Tuesday evening, falling to the two-seeded Concordia Bulldogs in a shootout in Seward, Nebraska.

"It was a disappointing season overall and a heartbreaking way to end the season for us. The boys gave everything to the game, and we probably deserved a little more than what we got tonight. I'd like to thank all of our seniors who have given so much to the program," said Head Coach Teren Schuster. "They have helped set the culture for our younger players for years to come. We will be back next year stronger."

In the 26th minute, the Bulldogs drew a foul inside the box to setup a penalty kick. Goal Keeper Phillip Haenel kept Concordia at bay, turning away the penalty kick from Martin Herrera.

Late in the half, the Chargers broke the scoring tie as Steingrímur Dagur Stefánsson scored in the 38th minute. Haenel in the first period recorded three saves.

Concordia scored the equalizer in the 74th minute courtesy of Ferdi Hagen.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the Bulldogs advanced via 5-4 through a shootout.

The Cliff finish with a 5-11-3 (4-5-1 GPAC) record.
