Allen Earns Runner-up Honors At Falcon Open

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Senior Alton Allen was runner-up at 285-lbs as the Briar Cliff University wrestling team (RV) opened the season at the Falcon Open, Saturday at Park City Arena. The Chargers competed in the Elite and Amateur Divisions.

In the elite division at 285-lbs, Allen (#11) advanced to the championship final before losing to NAIA #1 Kenneth Copley (Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). He picked up four wins on the day including a 4-2 win over NAIA #16 Corbin Hayes.

"Alton (Allen) and Tyler (Fouts) both represented us well and wrestled like the leaders that they are. Alton made a run all the way to the finals by winning four straight matches and took his only loss of the day to the #1 ranked heavyweight in the country. Tyler was able to pick up three wins before his day ended. A handful of our young pups performed well in their first college action. Dariuz (Black), Jesus (Sanchez) and Erik (Lessears) all picked up multiple wins.

I was overall pleased with our effort, but realize that we will have a long way to go with this young group we have this season. A few of our freshmen got a true taste of what college wrestling is all about and now know that they have to make that adjustment. Our focus will be to clean up the small mistakes we are making that are sure to add up as big points on the scoreboard."

Briar Cliff heads east, Thursday, Nov 7, to compete against #16 Central Methodist and #1 Grand View. The dual meet, which is in Des Moines, is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
