Briar Cliff Competes At Younes Hospitality Open

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Briar Cliff University wrestling team (RV) competed at the Younes Hospitality Open, Saturday.

In the Elite division at 149-lbs, junior Tyler Fouts went 3-2. All three of his wins were against NCAA Division II opponents. Fouts had two pins and a major decision for his victories.

In the Amateur division at 165-lbs, sophomore Jackson Balmer finished 3-2 on the day. Two of his three wins were by pin.

"As it is with most tournaments, we had our highs and lows on the day. The one thing I am pleased with is our overall effort and intensity. My major press right now is to raise our efficiency and consistency when it comes to situational wrestling, but that's to be expected with such a young group. Our standout performances came from our Washington State connection, Tyler (Fouts) and Jackson (Balmer). Tyler was 3-2 on the day with two falls and truly showed flashes of breaking through to a different level. Jackson also was 3-2, with one of those being an overtime thriller in which he was down 9-0 in the first period. He came back to win 15-12."
