The 17
th ranked Briar Cliff women's basketball team overcame a slow start Saturday afternoon, beating the visiting Hastings Broncos 87-60 inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
The Chargers trailed 22-14 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
The Cliff would come out of the break strong, going on a 12-2 run to take a 26-24 lead midway through the frame.
Mallie McNair kicked off the run with a layup and
Kennedy Benne recorded a steal and went coast-to-coast on the ensuing possession. McNair took over in the second quarter, scoring 11 points in the frame.
In the third quarter, the Broncos cut the Charger lead to four following a made free throw from Mariyah Avila. The Chargers answered with a quick 7-0 run following a three and a basket from
Kenna Mongan followed by a pair of free throws from Benne.
Midway through the fourth quarter,
Mallie McNair knocked down back-to-back three pointers to extend the Charger lead to 10. Late in the fourth quarter,
Grace Flanagan buried a three-ball off an assist from
Adrianna Webster to put Briar Cliff up 74-61 with little over three minutes to play in the contest.Â
McNair paved the way for the Chargers, scoring 22 points while shooting 10-for-18 from the field and recording two steals. Langel added 13 points while shooting six-for-nine from the field.
Webster added 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished five assists and notched four steals in the contest. Flanagan and Mongan both added 11 points in the win.

The Cliff shot 50% from the field in the contest and forced 21 turnovers on the defensive side of the ball.
Kennedy Benne and Webster both led the Cliff in steals with four.

The Chargers improved to 6-0 (3-0 GPAC) on the year, and will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Mitchell, South Dakota to take on the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
