Chargers Fall To Mustangs

MARSHALL, Minnesota – The Briar Cliff University wrestling team (Receiving Votes) (0-3) lost 28-16 to NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State (1-0), Wednesday night at PE Gym.

At 165-lbs, sophomore Jackson Balmer had a dominating 17-8 win by major decision over Caden Young. Additional wins came from senior Alton Allen (285-lbs), junior Tyler Fouts (149-lbs) and sophomore Dante Rigal (125-lbs).

"Overall, I was pleased with the effort and intensity of the guys. This dual ultimately came down to bonus points and slow starts on our end. Jackson (Balmer) had a breakthrough performance that will hopefully propel him forward toward jumping levels. Tyler (Fouts) and Alton (Allen) provided savvy upper-class men wins as well. Dariuz's (Black) match was one we let slip away from us. He dominated for six of the seven minutes, but we were outscored in the one minute we took our foot off the gas. There were a lot of positives and I'm looking forward to competing again this weekend at the Grand View Open."

Briar Cliff heads back to Des Moines, Saturday, Nov. 16 to compete in the Grand View Open. The tournament is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
