Chargers Close Out Mustang Derby

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Briar Cliff University women's golf team had a 10-stroke improvement to close out the Mustang Derby.

The tournament was played at Whispering Creek Golf Course, a Par-72 with a total yardage of 5105 yards.

Morningside shot +46 (309-313) to win by 13 strokes over Dakota Wesleyan (+59 / 314-321). Rounding out the top five were Jamestown (3^rd - +70 / 326-320), Briar Cliff (4^th - +82 / 334-324) and Mount Marty (5^th - +90 / 336-330).

Individually, Allison Meyerink (Dakota Wesleyan) shot +3 (74-73 =147) to win by two strokes over Kelsey Heath (Mount Marty).

Senior Helene Getz Bergmo tied for ninth at +14 (76-82 =158). For the tournament, she led in birdies (6), was third in Par-5 scoring (5.00) and fourth in Par-4 scoring (4.25). Getz Bergmo led BCU with 18 pars.

Freshman Lucy Carter was 23^rd at +23 (90-77 =167). For the tournament, she was among the Top 10 in Par-3 scoring (3.50).

Sophomore Olivia Sorlie tied for 24^th at +24 (86-82 =168).

Senior Kelly Baade and sophomore Emma Erickson tied for 27^th at +26 (170). Baade (85-85) was second in the tournament for birdies (5) while Erickson (87-83) was second on the team with 16 pars.

"The ladies had just as strong of an improvement as the guys. This course can really be a beast. While we still made a few big numbers, we actually scored in areas we did not score yesterday. The ladies had their best single round score of the fall season. Lucy (Carter) was a big catalyst for that improving by 13 shots from yesterday."

Briar Cliff closes out the fall season, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 14-15 at Battle at the Dance. The tournament will be at RainDance National Golf Course (Windsor, Colo.).
