Arunmala In The Lead Group

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Junior Thavichakree Arunmala is in second as the Briar Cliff University men's golf team finished Day 1 of the Mustang Derby.

The tournament is being played Whispering Creek Golf Course, a Par-72 with a total yardage of 6600 yards.

Morningside shot +3 (291) and lead by nine strokes over Jamestown and Southwestern CC. Tied for fourth at +15 is Hawkeye CC and Iowa Central CC.

Briar Cliff is 12^th at +30 (318).

Individually, Gehrig Geiss (Jamestown) shot -2 (70) and leads by a stroke over Arunmala, Pablo Colin (Morningside), Ethan Main (Iowa Western CC) and Max Noffsinger (Jamestown).

Arunmala leads the team with five birdies and 10 pars. For the tournament, he is tied for second in birdies and Par-5 scoring (4.60) and is among the top 10 in Par-4 scoring (4.00).

Freshman Joris Scharli is tied for 31^st at +6 (78). He has recorded nine pars.

Freshman Jack Bloom is tied for 53^rd at +11 (83).

Senior Gregorio Fernandez is tied for 60^th at +14 (86). He has eight pars.
