Briar Cliff Charges From Behind For Victory

FREMONT, Neb. – Freshman Eyrun Vala Hardardottir scored twice in the last 12 minutes as the Briar Cliff University women's soccer team (3-3-1 GPAC, 3-8-2) beat Midland (2-2-2 GPAC, 2-2-2) 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Heedum Field.  It was the third straight win for the Chargers.

Midland drew first blood scoring at the 18:33 mark.  It was a strong defensive effort on both sides in the first half with just eight total shots.

The Chargers stepped it up in the second half, getting off 10 shots while allowing the Warriors just three.  Midland did not have its first shot until 32 minutes into the second half.

BCU saw the Warrior keeper make two great saves to keep them off the board.  At the 78:49 mark, senior Tia Lisy made a beautiful pass to Vala Hardardottir.  She slid the ball across the line to tie the game.

With 4:59 to go, junior Manu Polachini found Vala Hardardottir open in front of the net.  She blasted the ball through to put the Chargers up 2-1.  The BCU defense held off the Warriors for the win.

Briar Cliff had 14 shots with six on goal, four corner kicks and were called for eight fouls.

Midland had seven shots with three on goal, one corner kick and were called for 16 fouls.

Briar Cliff returns home, Wednesday, Oct. 16, taking on Dordt.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
