The Charger men's basketball team erupted in the second half, outscoring the visiting Mount Marty Lancers 46-18 en route to a 77-49 victory Saturday afternoon.
Matthew Stilwill scored 24 points on an efficient seven-for-11 from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds, recorded four assists, and produced three steals.

"I thought our guys played with great intensity and attention to detail defensively to start the second half," said Head Coach
Mark Svagera. "And that, coupled with our offense starting to click allowed us to build a lead. Now we have a quick turnaround to tomorrow's game, and we'll need that same intensity for 40 minutes."

The Charger offense struggled to find the bottom of the net early on, recording their first basket at the 15:48 mark following a floater from
Quinn Vesey. The Chargers led 7-6 a minute later after Vesey recorded a steal and dished it to
Jamison Helmers for a triple. Halfway through the half, Briar Cliff led 19-9 after
Tyrus Eischeid scored in the paint. Mount Marty wouldn't shy away, as they battled back to tie the contest 31-31 heading into halftime.

Briar Cliff opened the second half with a 16-2 run, capped off with Helmers recording a steal and going coast-to-coast for a layup. The Chargers took a 47-33 lead with a little over 15 minutes to play. With over two minutes to play, BCU took its largest lead of the night, leading by 30 after
Kamden Wingert scored on a post-up on the low block.
The Chargers shot 48% from the field and knocked down eight threes in the contest. The defense forced Mount Marty to commit 20 turnovers in the contest, while holding them to 35% from the field.

Eischeid scored 13 points and went six-for-10 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds in the contest. Helmers chipped in 12 and buried two threes in the contest. Vesey added 11 points and recorded two steals. Freshman
Colby Collison has seen an increase of minutes over the course of the season, adding seven points coming off the bench.

The Chargers improve to 11-9 (5-7 GPAC) and will have a quick turnaround as the take on the GPAC leading Broncos of Hastings Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
