The Briar Cliff volleyball team opened their weekend slate of games with a sweep of Evangel Friday night in Springfield, Missouri.

"Sometimes it's hard to beat a team more than once in NAIA volleyball so coming out tonight and beating Evangel twice in six days says a lot for the grit of our squad," said head coach

Seven of the first eight Charger points of the match were courtesy of Valor errors with four service and three attack errors.
Taryn Nothem registered the first BC kill of the night to take a 9-7 lead. The Chargers began to build a lead with a 6-1 run late in the set.
Reese Strouth tallied a pair of kills and
Jaice Johnsen recorded her second ace of the set during the run. A block from
Toria Andre and
Kiersten Baker closed out the 25-20 set win.

The Chargers were efficient in set two, notching 10 kills with zero errors and a .385 hitting percentage. The Chargers were the first to 15 points, and similar to set one, began to pull away late with a 6-2 run. Following a
Taylin Boettcher ace, the Chargers took a 21-18 lead. Strouth put away the set winning kill, assisted by
Olivia Corey, as the Chargers took set two 25-21.

The Chargers totaled a match high 13 kills in the third set and hit .294. Briar Cliff raced out to a 10-4 lead. The Chargers shut down any change of a Valor comeback with seven straight points to lead 23-12.
Avery Beller held serve for six straight points, while Andre added three kills and
Sami Wasmund had two. Andre and Wasmund were responsible for six of the seven points during the run, as they also teamed up for a block. Nothem and Wasmund closed out the sweep with a block.

Andre a team high eight kills and hit a red-hot .571 with four blocks. Wasmund had seven kills and five blocks. Strouth totaled six kills on a .385 hitting percentage, while Beller had a team high 10 digs.

Johnsen recorded three service aces and
Yenne Schepers had a team high 16 assists.

The Chargers return to action tomorrow for a pair of games in Springfield, Missouri. BC will face York at 9:30 a.m. and William Woods at 2:00 p.m.
