CHARGERS DROP HOME MATCH TO RV DAKOTA WESLEYAN

The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell in four sets Tuesday to RV Dakota Wesleyan at the Newman Flanagan Center.

"We started out blocking and digging well in set one. I thought Toria Andre set the tone for the night by scoring points for us and containing Ady Dwight, DWUs top hitter," said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. "DWU is a strong team and they were able to make adjustments in sets two and three that had us on our heels."

The Chargers closed the first set strong, winning 25-23 over the Tigers. Dakota Wesleyan held the lead throughout the set until BC began to make their charge trailing 18-20. A Reese Strouth kill followed by one from Sami Wasmund and a Jaice Johnson ace gave the Cliff their first lead of the set. The Tigers tied it at 21 following a timeout, but the Blue and Gold would score four of the next six points to win by two. Back-to-back kills from Kiersten Baker and Strouth closed out the set win.

The Tiger attack picked up in the second and third set as they hit .244 and .517 with 33 total kills.

Looking to push a fifth set, the Chargers tied the Tigers at 9-9 following a Baker kill. DWU would pull ahead with an 8-2 run to go up 17-11. BC battled back to a 18-22 score line after a Wasmund kill but three straight DWU points closed out the match 3-1.

"Taryn Nothem and Isabelle Lenz played well for us off the bench and it was nice to see their strong effort coming in later in the match," said Weatherford. "Sami Wasmund has been a great leader on the court for us all season long and her ability to terminate under pressure gave us momentum tonight when we needed it!"

Wasmund led the Cliff with 10 kills and a .258 hitting percentage and one block. Toria Andre had seven blocks (3 solo) with six kills and Snow had seven kills and three blocks.

Yenne Schepers and Olivia Corey each had 17 assists. Schepers and Johnsen each tallied one ace.

Avery Beller had a team high 22 digs and Taylin Boettcher totaled 14.

The Chargers are back in the action on Friday for a GPAC match against Concordia. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
