The Briar Cliff women's golf team concluded round three of the Bulldog Spring Invite on Tuesday at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Charger women wrapped up their tournament with a third-place team finish.
Â
ROUND THREE
The Chargers finished round three with a team score of 322 (+34), marking the lowest score among GPAC opponents.
Â
"I'm pleased with our consistency, but was looking for a couple more players to be in the 70's today", said head coach
Ben Irlbeck. "The course was firm and fast, which made it extremely short. It gave out ladies many chances for birdies and even eagles on the par-fives."
Â
Helene Getz Bergmo paced the Chargers in the final round with the outstanding score of 76 (+4). Bergmo posted the cleanest card among GPAC opponents as she tallied one birdie to go with her 13 pars. She played the pars fives one-under par in the final round. Bergmo concluded her tournament in a tie for fourth place.
"The individual leader from the University of Nebraska Kearney had a nice finish and kept the lead out of reach for Helene", noted Irlbeck. "I was really hoping we'd have a close individual race down the stretch today, but hats off to the top players for their great play today."
Â
Frankie Valencia surged up the leaderboard on day two of the event with a round-three score of 78 (+6). Valencia found two birdies and 10 pars in her final round to jump her one spot up the board to finish in a tie for 11th place.
Â
Kelly Baade carded a final round 84 (+12). Baade found eight pars in her final round to jump her one spot up the leaderboard.
Abbigale Miller matched her as she returned to the clubhouse with the score of 84 (+12). Miller also found eight pars in her final round to finish in a tie for 23rd place.
Â
Grace Johanson rounded out the top-five for the Chargers as she walked off the final green with the score of 88 (+14). Johanson carded five pars in the final round. She saw a two-stroke improvement from the front nine to the back nine as she carded a 45 (+9) and 43 (+7), respectively. Johanson wrapped up her tournament in a tie for 21st place.
Â
Katie Wight and
Avery Beller, both registered as individuals, concluded the final for the Chargers with the scores of 98 (+26) and 101 (+29), respectively. Wight recorded a nine-stroke improvement from her round-two score of 107 (+35), while Beller found a two-stroke improvement.
Â
"
Katie Wight had her personal-best round of 98", explained Irlbeck. "She called it before the round and followed through with her best score! Frankie also got the monkey off her back and put together a nice 78. We're looking for her to shoot more of those this spring!"
Â
The Charger women have almost two weeks off and return to action on Monday and Tuesday, April 17-18, when they compete in the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase at the Bent Tree Golf Course in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
