CHARGER WOMEN SIT IN THIRD AFTER DAY ONE OF BULLDOG SPRING INVITE

The Briar Cliff women's golf team concluded round one and two of the Bulldog Spring Invite on Monday at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Charger women prep for the final round in third place.

ROUND ONE
The Chargers finished round two with a team score of 321 (+33), marking the lowest score among GPAC opponents.

"I was very happy with our play today", said head coach Ben Irlbeck. "Mentally, we did run out of gas toward the end of the 36-hole day, but I was pleased with our ability to hang in there. Helene Getz Bergmo has the chance to make a move individually, but I don't want anyone to overlook Grace Johanson and Frankie Valencia, as they both had their best two-round showing of the year."

Helene Getz Bergmo paced the Chargers in round one with the outstanding score of 74 (+2). Bergmo posted the cleanest card of round one as she tallied one birdie to go with her 14 pars. She played both the par fours and the pars fives even in the opening round. After round one, Bergmo sat atop the leaderboard with a one-stroke lead.

Frankie Valencia was the second-best scorer for the Cliff as she returned to the clubhouse with an opening-round 81 (+9). Valencia found one birdie and eight pars in round one.

Grace Johanson followed close behind with a round-one score of 82 (+10). Johanson managed to card two birdies and nine pars. She saw a six-stroke difference from the front nine to the back nine as she carded a 38 (+2) and a 44 (+8), respectively.

Kelly Baade rounded out the scoring for the Chargers with a round-one 84 (+12). Baade carded eight pars. Abbigale Miller matched Baade with an opening 84 (+12). Miller found a birdie on the first hole and six pars along the way.

Katie Wight and Avery Beller, both registered as individuals, recorded the round one scores of 100 (+28) and 113 (+41), respectively.

ROUND TWO

Bergmo led the Chargers once again in round two, sinking the last putt to card a round-two score of 80 (+8). Bergmo tallied a team-high four birdies in round two, assisting seven pars. At the end of day one, Bergmo sits in third place, two strokes back from the leader.

Johanson and Valencia nearly matched each again in round two. Johanson walked off the final green with the score of 82 (+10) as Valencia closed her day with an 83 (+11). Johanson carded another birdie on hole one and found eight pars, while Valencia scrambled well to find nine pars. Both Johanson and Valencia head into the final round in a tie for 12th place.

Miller posted the highlight of the day for Chargers. Despite carding an 85 (+13) in round two, Miller sunk an eagle on the 18th hole. After a perfect drive, Miller holed out from 127 yards from the fairway. She also tallied six pars in round two and rests in a tie for 24th place.

Baade stayed consistent as she fired a round-two 86 (+14). Baade managed to sink one birdie late in the day, along with seven pars. Baade preps for round three in a solo 26th place.

Beller and Wight concluded round two for the Chargers with the scores of 103 (+31) and 107 (+35). Wight sits in a solo 59th place, with Beller close behind in a solo 62nd place.

"With the weather forecast improving by the hour, tomorrow could be our best day yet", explained Irlbeck.

The Charger women return to action early Tuesday morning as they are schedule to tee off at 8:30 a.m. for the final 18 holes of play at the Highlands Golf Course for the Bulldog Spring Invite.
