The Briar Cliff women's golf team concluded the final round of the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase on Tuesday at the Bent Tree Golf Course in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Charger women wrapped up the tournament in third place.
 
"Overall, the team struggled with the adjustment to a new course with faster greens and firm spring conditions", said head coach Ben Irlbeck. "I was really hoping we could form a couple of lower scores to chase the leading teams."
 
ROUND TWO
The Chargers finished round two with a team score of 340 (+52), placing them in third.
 
Iowa Western Community College waltzed with the team title after shooting the team scores of 328 (+40) and 311 (+23) for a total of 639 (+63). Iowa Western's Baylie Pike and Bellevue University's Tylah Saifoloi shared the individual title after firing the total score of 154 each.
 
Helene Getz Bergmo paced the Charger squad with the solid round-two score of 77 (+5). Bergmo is coming off her eighth-career top-10 finish at the Bulldog Spring Invite a couple weeks ago. After round one, she sat in a tie for 2nd place, only one shot back from the leader. Bergmo dropped one spot down the leaderboard to finish in a solo third place, one shot away from the first-place finishers.
 
"Helene left a couple shots out there", noted Irlbeck. "Tomorrow, we're looking for her to push the leader and pick up her first win of the season. Grace also had a solid day. I'm pleased with her improvements this season!"
 
Grace Johanson put together a consistent round two as she returned to the clubhouse with the score of 86 (+14). Prior to this meet, Johanson had a top finish of tied for 21st place this spring season. Johanson finished in a tie for eighth place, marking her best finish as a Charger.
 
Abbigale Miller made the biggest jump up the leaderboard for the Chargers in round two. After firing a 93 (+21), Miller carded the round two of 86 (+14) to push her six spots up the board to finish in a solo 16th place.
 
Frankie Valencia also finished in the top-20 as she closed out her round with the score of 91 (+19). At the Chargers' last meet, Valencia finished in a tie for 11th place after posting the scores of 81, 83, and 78, respectively. She closed out her day in a tie for 17th place at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase.
 
Kelly Baade rounded out the top-five scorers for the Cliff, posting a round two 91 (+19), match her score from day one. Baade was in a solo 19th place after round one and concluded her tournament in a tie for 20th.
 
Avery Beller and Sophia Johnson, both registered as individuals, stuck close to each other again in round two. Beller recorded the score of 103 (+31), while Johnson signed the scorecard of 108 (+36). Neither Beller nor Johnson moved any direction on the leaderboard. Beller finished in a solo 30th place, while Johnson ends her tournament in a tie for 33rd place.
 
Katie Wight and Addison Butler, also registered as individuals, flipped spots on the leaderboard from round one to round two. Wight signed the score of 113 (+41) on day two, an eight-stroke improvement from her opening round, while Butler walked off the final green with the score of 121 (+49). Wight finished in a solo 36th place as Butler rounded out the tournament for the Chargers in a solo 37th place.
 
"We will continue to make adjustments going into conference championship week", said Irlbeck. "The ladies are looking forward to the championship."
 
The Charger women return to action Thursday morning when they host the Briar Cliff JV Invite at the Green Valley Golf Course here in Sioux City, Iowa.
