The Briar Cliff softball team fell in both games against Culver-Stockton Sunday in Canton, Missouri. The Chargers move to 9-5 on the season.

 "Really tough day today. We were very flat and unfortunately that lack of intensity and focus leads to miscues on both offense and defense," said head coach
Erin Bly. "We'll have to learn that tough lesson and regroup."

Game 1 – L, 4-5
The Wildcats struck first in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left field. The Chargers were in prime position to score in the fourth inning. However, with runners on second and third Culver-Stockton forced a flyout to end the inning. The Wildcats scored another run in the fourth to up 2-0.

Aubrey Chichurka drove in
Kylee Lukes to cut the deficit in half in the fifth. After a
Karina Cupples leadoff single, followed by a
Callie Billings single and stolen base, the Chargers had runners on second and third with no outs.
Jessica James doubled to right center, scoring both Charger runners.
Kenadee Loew drove in James as BC took a 4-2 lead.

The Wildcats brought the contest to a tie with two runs in the sixth, and in the seventh the Chargers went down in order. Culver-Stockton walked off in the bottom half, taking the 5-4 win.

Chichurka, Billings and
Kennedy Andersen tallied two hits each. Billings stole two bases, while Cupples swiped one.

Maddi Duncan started for the Chargers and went 5.1 innings surrendering four runs (three earned) with six strikeouts.
Katelyn Kotlarz is tagged with the loss after throwing the final 1.1 innings.

Game 2 – L, 1-5
It was the Chargers who scored first in game two with an
Autumn Soter solo homer to center field.
Â
However, the Wildcats scored two in the second to take the lead and one run in each of the next three innings.
Â
James and Soter each had one hit, while Lukes and Billings drew a walk.
Â
Morgan Jones takes the loss for the Cliff after 2.0 innings of work. Kotlarz threw four innings in relief and totaled four strikeouts.

The Chargers are back in action next Saturday in Sterling, Kansas against Sterling. The Chargers swept the Warriors in their opening set of games, 2-0 and 3-1, on February 11.
