CHARGER WOMEN DOWN DOANE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Box Score The #23 Briar Cliff women's basketball team dominated Doane in their 96-76 win in Crete, Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. Kennedy Benne posted a career-high 27 points.

The Chargers came out hot in the first quarter shooting 69.2% from the field compared to 21.4% shooting from Doane. The Cliff opened the first 10 minutes with a 13-4 scoring run with four different Chargers scoring. The overwhelming Charger defense held the GPAC's leading scorer in Mak Hatcliff to three points after the first 10 minutes.

BC stayed hot in the second quarter as Kennedy Benne started to take over the game. Benne scored 10 of the Chargers' 27 points while the Cliff knocked down a perfect 9-of-9 free throw attempts. Doane found their offensive rhythm, but Briar Cliff matched them and carried a 14-point lead heading into the halftime break.

The Charger defense was rejuvenated after the 20-minute break, forcing nine Tiger turnovers in the third quarter. The unwavering BC offense converted nine points off those turnovers, expanding their lead to 17 points heading into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, the Cliff knocked down four 3-point baskets with all four baskets being assisted. The Charger lead was too large for any Doane comeback effort as Briar Cliff went on to card their 21st win on the season and 17th win in conference play.

As a team, Briar Cliff held the advantage in 3-point field goals made (11-4), total rebounds (34-25), second chance points (12-2), bench points (15-8) and assists (17-10).

Kennedy Benne paced the Chargers with a career-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from deep range. Payton Slaughter followed closely with 21 points to go with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.

Konnor Sudmann added 14 points, four rebounds and eight assist while Peyton Wingert recorded 12 points and six rebounds. Kaegan Held scored 10 points coming off the bench and Madelyn Deitchler gathered eight rebounds.

The Cliff will now prep for GPAC tournament play as the #2 seeded Chargers host the #7 seeded Morningside Mustangs on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the NFC.
